Independent Medical Exam (IME)
A one-time exam by a doctor who is not treating you, usually requested by an employer, insurer, or attorney to give an opinion on an injury, treatment, or work restrictions.
Example: An insurer may schedule an IME to get a second view of your work restrictions.
