Mental wellness care supports your emotional and psychological health, and recognizes how closely the mind and body are connected — especially during recovery from injury.

What is mental wellness care?

Mental wellness care includes talk therapy (psychotherapy), psychiatric care (which can include medication), and psychological and neuropsychological assessments. Aptiva’s approach is whole-person, considering medical, psychological, and environmental factors — including how a physical injury can affect mood, and how mental health can affect recovery.

What it can help with

  • Anxiety and depression
  • Trauma and post-traumatic stress (for example, after an accident or injury)
  • Mood disorders
  • Stress related to surgery, recovery, or returning to work

Common types of support

  • Psychotherapy (talk therapy): working with a trained therapist to understand and manage thoughts, feelings, and behaviors
  • Psychiatric care: evaluation and, when appropriate, medication
  • Assessments: structured testing to understand thinking, memory, and emotional health
  • Pre- and post-surgery support: managing anxiety before surgery and coping afterward

What to expect

A first visit usually involves talking through your history, concerns, and goals. Care is collaborative — you and your provider decide together what approach fits. Note that providersAnyone licensed to give you medical care — a physician, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant. Clinics use "provider" as a catch-all for whoever is caring for you. may treat different age ranges, so it is worth asking when scheduling.

When to seek care
